2008 Sonny Ericsson Open, Miami Events

The Sonny Ericcson Open begins today Wednesday March 26th and will run till April 6th. Featuring the world’s top-ranked men and women players promises lots of excitement for all tennis lovers.

This popular Miami sporting event begins with women and men’s qualifying rounds. The main sketch for the 2008 Sony Ericsson Open begins today in Key Biscayne, just minutes away from popular Miami Beach. Exhilarating match-ups are expected as ATP players Gustavo Kuerten and Kei Nishikori and Sony Ericsson WTA Tour players Gisela Dulko and Jill Craybas begin their quest for the 2008 Sony Ericsson Open title.

The first tennis match on water took place in our very own South Beach. Two of the World's leading tennis players, Serena Williams and Rafael Nadal were in charge of completing the seemingly impossible mission. The ground-breaking tennis match took place at the top of the new Gansevoort South Hotel as it officially opened its doors for the first time. The water-covered court was constructed in the 110ft swimming pool set in the Gansevoort's exclusive 22,000sqft rooftop retreat overlooking South Beach Miami, Florida. This match has the purpose of welcoming the 2008 Sonny Ericsson Open. The Sony Ericsson Open is the World's fifth largest tournament and the only 12-day tennis event on the ATP and Sony Ericsson WTA Tour calendars.

The 2008 Sonny Ericsson Open takes place at the Tennis Center at Crandon Park, 7300 Crandon Blvd., Key Biscayne. Gates open at 10 a.m. with match play beginning on Stadium at 11 a.m. Tickets are available at www.sonyericssonopen.com starting at $5.
